Dr Sarah Martins da Silva
Consultant and Person Responsible to HFEA
Sarah Martins da Silva is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer based at Ninewells Assisted Conception Unit and University of Dundee. She is experienced in all aspects of subfertility investigation and management.
Sarah qualified in 1995. During her specialist training she completed MD investigating various aspects of ovarian development and egg maturation (University of Edinburgh 2007) and subsequently worked as a Clinical Lecturer in Reproductive Medicine before being appointed as a fully accredited consultant in 2013. She also has a specialist interest in ultrasound and was awarded RCOG RCR Diploma in Obstetric ultrasound in 2008.
Sarah has an active research programme focussed around male infertility, sperm biology and drug discovery. She also runs a sperm studies research clinic for couples affected by unexplained total failed (or low <25%) fertilisation following IVF/ICSI, which accepts national referrals. She has published primary research and commentary articles, has travelled worldwide as an invited speaker and to present her research, and is a member of Science Media Centre expert database.

After completing MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in India, Suresh did further training in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, obtaining MRCOG in 2000 and FRCOG from the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2013. He is a Consultant Gynaecologist at Ninewells Hospital and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the University of Dundee.
Suresh has been Clinical Lead for fertility services and HFEA Person Responsible for the ACU since March 2014. His aim is to provide the highest level of care for couples attending the Centre.
His main area of interest is Reproductive Medicine, including Assisted Conception treatment and Reproductive Surgery with a focus on surgical procedures to improve fertility. He has a strong research interest in polycystic ovary disease and endometriosis.

Dr Vanessa Kay developed an interest in Reproductive Medicine as a trainee, working as alecturer in Edinburgh and obtaining an MD studying male factor infertility. Vanessa has worked as a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecologist since 1999, transferring to work in NHS Tayside 14 years ago. She was the Clinical Lead for Infertility and Person Responsible for the Assisted Conception Unit for 5 years. She continues to work as a gynaecologist with specialist interests in infertility, performing regular clinics and theatre lists in this area. She also does general gynaecology clinics and theatre lists. Vanessa has recently been appointed as Co-Director of the Dundee Institute of Healthcare Simulation (Procedural Skills). Throughout her career, she has developed an increasing role in developing and delivering high quality and innovative medical education, having obtained a Masters in Medical Education in 2012. She was the Teaching Lead in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and lead for undergraduate medical formative assessment over the last 8 years. She is a co-lead for an MSc in Human Clinical Embryology Reproduction and Assisted Conception and continues to actively contribute to research in this field.

Mythili completed her medical degree in 2003. Her Obstetrics and Gynaecology training started in the west of Scotland region where she obtained my MRCOG in 2010. She moved to East of Scotland and completed her fellowship in Reproductive Medicine in the IVF unit in Dundee. She took a 3 year Academic clinical lectureship programme working between NHS Tayside and University of Dundee with special focus on research with sperm and reproductive tract cells.
Mythili's main area of interest is Reproductive Medicine, Fertility treatment, including Assisted Conception treatment (IVF and ICSI) and Reproductive Surgery. She also has a strong interest in minimal access surgery (key hole surgery).

Senior Advance Nurse Practitioner for Sedation
Jen Ulyatt joined our team following a previous career as Senior Charge Nurse in Accident and Emergency, and set up our nurse sedation service.
She has presented her work, here, at Fertility 2015, "Implementation of nurse sedation for assisted conception surgery", for which she won a prize. She is now the lead for our Patient Emotional Support pathway.

Alison has been a part of the nursing team within the Unit since 1999 and her current role is Senior Charge Nurse. It was during her time as a Midwife in the antenatal clinic that she first had contact with the Unit to try to make the transition from fertility care to antenatal care easier for the patients.
Alison is very much involved in the care received by our patients throughout their fertility journey.
Over the years within the Unit, as well as gaining practical experience her role as Senior Charge Nurse has developed to include nurse-led consultations, being fully trained in ultrasound scanning and performing embryo transfers.

Maureen has been a Senior Charge Nurse/midwife in the ACU since 1994. She started her nursing career as a general nurse in a very busy medical ward but, following her midwifery training and experience, she developed an interest in fertility treatments.
Over the years her role has developed and her practices expanded.
Maureen is totally involved in the patient's fertility journey and always available as a point of contact for queries and support.
Along with Alison Mills, Maureen is responsible for the running of the ward on a daily basis. She is fully trained in ultrasound scanning and carries out embryo transfers. She runs her own nurse-led clinics.
Maureen gets great satisfaction knowing that she is helping others and supporting patients through the highs and lows of treatment.

Anne originally trained as a nurse in 1982 and worked in a variety of specialities within the NHS. She left nursing in 2003, changing her career after completing an Msc in Counselling and Health.
She has experience of working within different counselling settings. She was employed as the Memory Clinic Counselling Sister in Ninewells Hospital for 5 years and then became a Staff Counsellor in Occupational Health for NHS Tayside and Fife for over 10 years. She also has experience as a Counsellor in GP practice and worked as a Student Counsellor within the University of Abertay for 3 years. She taught on the Post-Graduate Certificate and Diploma in Counselling at University of Abertay, Dundee for 5 years and has also worked in private practice as a Counsellor and Counselling Supervisor.
Since 2010 she has been employed as the Infertility Counsellor in the Assisted Conception Unit in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
Anne is a Senior Accredited Member of BACP and an Accredited Member of BICA. She was on the BICA Executive Committee from 2012-2018 and was Chair of BICA from May 2016-2018.
